A bit about the breed
These handsome dogs, a relatively new breed developed to recreate it's extinct predicessor of today's bulldog. The end result is a vigorous dog that combines the appearance of the 19th century bulldog with a gentle, family-friendly demeanor.
The breed was developed in the 1970's to recreate the athleticsism of the Regency period BullBaiters but without the tenacity and drive needed to complete the job required 200 years ago. Today's breed has been developed by crossing English Bulldogs, American Bulldoggs, Bull Mastiff, and the American Pitt-bull Terrier. The resulting bullie is a robust and muscular dog that is well proportioned in size and build. Unlike some bull breeds, Olde English Bulldogges should not suffer from restrictive breathing when exposed to hot or cold tempertures. They are less likely to experience joint issues, generally live between 11 and 14 years, breed naturally and whelp freely.
The breed was developed in the United States of America. An average dog stands 16" - 21" at the shoulder, weighing anywhere from 55LBS -90LBS with a short coarse coat and muscular build.
Temperament
While these dogs look like tough characters, they are sweet gentle dogs. They are loyal pets and very eager to please. They are relatively easy to train, however need a kind but authoritative owner.
They enjoy friendly horseplay and gentle wrestling. They love walks but can be sensitive to extreme heat and cold.
Bulldoges make very good house pets and are great with children. They can be jealous toward other animals in the home, so early socialization and training should minimize their tendency toward jealousy. Although these dogs are generally friendly with strangers outside their home, they can be very protective of their home turf and families.
Health
If you are considering adopting a Showstopper puppy or adult make sure you understand that all Bulldogge breeds have special health considerations. The average lifespan is 9-12 years. Although this breed was developed to be more robust than other Bullie breeds, it is wise to monitor for some potential health issues, including;~Hip Displasia~Cherry Eye~Heat Exhaustion
Olde English Bulldogges can be prone to Bloat. Smaller meals and water servings will reduce the risk. Keeping them lean and moderately active will reduce risk of Hip Dysplasia.
